I Mana ka ʻŌlelo

Our words are powerful. At the end of Moʻokuapā, we will ask everyone to focus their collective power to solidify and fortify the work completed. This will come in the form of an oli (chant) and mele (song). Both are listed below along with explanations and sounds. Please take the time to become familiar with them. Imagine the sight and feeling of 2,000 people gathered with a collective purpose and unified in voice.

Hoʻoniho ka Niho

Composed by Paepae o Heʻeia staff in 2014, this short oli names different parts of the kuapā (wall) and the actions to build it. By joining our voices with the rhythmic claps, we will weave a final layer of, invisible but crucial, mortar throughout the kuapā. This oli will "seal the deal" for our event.

Hawaiʻi Aloha

"Hawaiʻi Aloha" is a revered anthem of Hawaiʻi residents written by Lorenzo Lyons.

This song is typically sung in both small and large, formal and informal gatherings while participants stand in a circle with joined hands. It is a song of unity and Aloha ‘Āina - expressing love for one’s birthplace and home.
